First, start by purchasing a "recharge kit" from your local autoparts store. Any R-134a kit should be OK. Some have added dyes for tracking leaks or other additives to seal leaks as well as needed oils. Some kits claim to be "improved" R-134a but I have not found that to be the case.... any kit with a gauge will do. It should run you abour $20 - $30 (if you empty the can, keep the gauge and hose part so you only need to buy the can next time, it will save you a few bucks) Look under the hood between the firewall and your battery on the passenger side of the car. You should see a black cylinder about the size of a soda can with some hoses coming out o fthe top. On the side of this can is a plastic cover that is protecting the port you are looking for. Follow the instructions on the can of the recharge kit you bought.... You should connect the kit to this port (this is your "low side" service port located on your accumulator / drier) and start the engine. Turn your A/C to Max and fan on high... keep your eye on the gauge and add some refrigerant. See if the air coming out of the vents is colder or not. Normally, you can add about 1/2 of a can and never see the pressures really go up but feel a world of difference in your A/C temps. Just follow the instructions on the can and you should be fine
134a refrigerant
Check the engine oil level. If low, add oil. If not, then something wrong with sensor.
Charge through the low pressure line located near the fire wall Buy a kit at auto parts or Wal-Mart comes with instructons
Follow Larger hose from a/c compressor--may be near firewall next to drier
The low side line, pass. side.
I've been driving my 1995 Ford Explorer for almost 14 years and have never had to add refrigerant - the system still works fine
you dont just let it blow up
First of all it does not contain Freon. It contains R134 or R134a. If it is low of refrigerant, then it has a leak. It is illegal to put refrigerant in a system with a leak without first repairing the leak. Take it to a professional and have it repaired, and the correct amount of refrigerant installed to the correct pressure.
Behind the power steering port. Black plastic cap.
You need a refrigerant recovery system and gauges to do it properly.
