Music/Audio used in Windows Movie Maker has to be formatted using one of the following file name extensions:

.aif, .aifc, .aiff, .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, or .wma

To insert the audio:

> Click on Import Media
> Locate the audio/music file
> Click Import

If the file has been imported successfully, it will appear in the Imported Media pane. Click, hold, drag and drop the audio/music file down into the Music/Audio track (in time-line view of Windows Movie). Click the Play button in the Preview pane to hear results. Adjust according to preference.

Audio files compatible with Windows Movie Maker are:

.aif, .aifc, .aiff, .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, .wma

If the file name extension (format) of the file you are trying to import is not one of those listed above, you will need to convert the file before it can be imported into the program.

Free audio converters are available online. Simply Google: free audio converters and download one. Install the converter and follow the conversion instructions making sure the Output Source format is one of the extensions (formats) listed above.

Mp3 is one of the most popular formats used in Windows Movie Maker, but ant extension you choose from the list will work.

# You need a video compatible with Windows Movie Maker (WMM), so not from Cd's. I tried that. # You need to got to Files > Import to Collection. # Go to the music file and choose it. # You have the music in the Collection. Switch to the timeline. # Drag it onto the Audio/Music line. # Optional. You can select bits of music by cropping the music file.
