No Harley Sportster has ever had a cam chain. The camshafts are gear driven, directly off the crank. No tension adjustment required.
Yes, it is has a very important job. It is the primary chain tensioner adjusting nut. The stud is attached to a nylon chain guide and cannot be removed without disassembly.
You cannot adjust the tensioner. It is automatic, and takes out the slack of a stretching/aging cam chain. Once the tensioner has fully extended, the only fix is to replace the chain and the part of the tensioner the chain rides on if it is worn.

A 2003 sportster has a chain drive for the promary, firm the engine to the transmission, and a belt drive final drive. The final drive is from the transmission to the rear wheel.
You dont, it's an automatic hydraulic tensioner. However eventually the chain and/or tensioner spring will wear out.
You can't adjust the chain on an LT80. You can buy an aftermarket chain tensioner if you wish to do this. This is the only way.
To properly adjust the chain tension on your dirt jumper using a chain tensioner, follow these steps: Loosen the bolts on the chain tensioner to allow for adjustment. Move the tensioner back or forth to adjust the tension on the chain. Ensure the chain is not too loose or too tight by checking the tension with your fingers. Once the desired tension is achieved, tighten the bolts on the chain tensioner to secure it in place. Test the chain tension by spinning the pedals to ensure smooth movement without any skipping or binding. Remember to regularly check and adjust the chain tension to maintain optimal performance and prevent damage to your bike.
To adjust the chain tension on your dirt jump bike using a chain tensioner, you can loosen the bolts on the tensioner, move it to the desired position to tighten or loosen the chain, and then tighten the bolts back up. Make sure the chain is properly tensioned to prevent it from slipping or causing damage to your bike.
I believe the cam chain tensioner on the 400ex is automatic, as with most if not all of the newer quads.
To install a chain tensioner on your bicycle, first, remove the rear wheel. Then, attach the tensioner to the frame or derailleur hanger. Adjust the tensioner to align with the chain and ensure proper tension. Finally, reattach the rear wheel and test the chain tension before riding.
Hello Sir. Its not possible to adjust since its tension depens on the oil pressure, if there is too much slack in your chain, you change the tensioner. And maybe chain / chain houseing if its damaged. Mechanic Nic E
