Disconnect the vacuum advance hose from the distributor and plug it. Make a white or yellow mark on the harmonic balancer at the 0 degree mark, and a mental note of the numbers on the timing tab. Connect a timing light to the #1 ignition wire and start the engine. Aim the timing light at the timing tab and observe where the white or yellow mark aligns on the timing tab. Loosen the distributor hold-down clamp and rotate the distributor to achieve the desired timing. Most '76 model 350's had very low compression from the factory, and benefit greatly from increased advance. The factory settings were probably around 6 or 8 BTDC but they can be set up to 16 BTDC depending on fuel quality. It would be unwise to advance the timing to a point that caused pinging under part-throttle, as this could easily result in broken pistons. Reconnect the vacuum hose when finished.

You set cam timing on a Yamaha big bear 350 4x4, by opening up the bike chassis and looking for the cam timing levers. You can adjust it up or down until you have it set to how you want it.
It is a mechanical pump on the side of the timing cover.
It could be the timing chain/sprockets marks are not lined up correctly or the valves are not adjusted correctly.
You shouldn't have to - the knock sensor is supposed to adjust the timing automatically. If the vehicle is mistimed, you might need to replace the knock sensor.

Connect a timing light, loosen the bolt on the distributor and turn it. If you have a model that is contolled by the EMM, you can only adjust the clearance of the cam and crank positions sensors. The rest is controlled by the computer and is determined by the software. Note that adjusting the sensors only improves the input to the EMM and does not control the timing.
Assuming the lifters are hydraulic, adjust each valve when FULLY closed to zero lash then turn in one additional turn, done.
