To get a male waiter's attention, call Monsieur!(pronounced mong-seeuh)

To get a female waiter's attention, call Mademoiselle!(pronounced ma-duh-mwa-sell)

L'addition, s'il vous plaît means "The check, please."

To pronounce it: la-di-si-ong, seel voo play.

Place your knife and fork together on the plate as an indication that you are finished. If that doesn't get the waiter's attention, fold your napkin and place it either to the side, or if you're getting a little impatient, ON TOP of the plate.

But you should be sensitive to the feelings of any guests(date) when you do anything that might draw attention to you or your table.

In most parts of the world, dining is intended to be a social event, and as such should not be rushed. Often people feel that once the bill is presented, that is an indication that the restaurant wants to free up the table for the next guests, and as such, waiters may be hesitant to bring the bill too soon.

We, (Americans in general) tend to always be in a rush. Enjoy the evening. Take time with your guest(s) and talk about something pleasant. Relax; dining out is supposed to be an enjoyable experience, more than just a way to fill your belly.
