I haven't completely answered this question myself, but so far this is what I've found. He is willing to make me laugh, and be around me, but he is all over me too. If i can make sure he sees me hanging out with my current boyfriend, he is more willing to behave himself.
To be friends with him, all I have to do, is treat him like I would my brother. I'll hug him every once and a while, but I keep separate at all times. Think of things you have in common, and talk about them, and try to keep yourself distant and keep him talking. Hang out with him, but never alone.
