Girls in elementary school, if you want to be cool or popular well... i know you heard this a bunch of times but just be yourself. be enthusiastic in everything and remember there are LOTS of kids looking this up just like you!

That may not be what you want to hear, but the answer above is very good advice. I wish someone would have given me that advice when I was in elementary school (long, long ago). I wanted to be in the in group so badly, but I never made it - not in elementary school, not in junior high, and not in high school. In fact, it was not until I was in my 20s that I felt like I finally "fit in."

Now, I have the advantage of hindsight and would like to share with you what I now understand that might help you. The truth is that not everyone is going to be popular and in the "in" crowd, so you might "make it" and you might not. Dwelling on it, wishing for it, trying to find ways to become popular won't help. If anything, it will push it farther away.

On the other hand, being yourself, pursuing your interests, developing confidence in yourself, being friendly, and things like that might make you popular, but even if it doesn't, it sure will make you happier with yourself. It also will make you a much more likeable person, which might just make you popular.

Some more advice is: Don't make excuses. If you want to do something, like being a cheerleader, it takes a lot of work, so be prepared to practice and get good at whatever you want to pursue. Keep your standards high and don't talk about others in a negative way. Always have something good to say. Don't go for the fleeting fads in clothing like I did; it won't make any difference to your popularity.

If you are shy, it might seem to others that you are stuck up and won't talk to others. Work on being more outgoing, but don't be obnoxious about it. Simply find meaningful, not silly, things to say to others. Be smart! Take your schoolwork seriously and make good grades. Be true to yourself; don't do anything just because your friends think you should.

In short, be yourself and be the very best you can be. It might or might not result in you becoming popular, but you at least won't look back one day and think "I wasted all those years trying to be popular when I could have been concentrating on ME!"
