What to do when introducing a new parakeet with an older parakeet?

Don't yell at it. Talk to it a lot. Play music that makes it chirp. Give it food and water and treats and toys. Don't put your hand all the way in its cage so it can come to you and so you don't encroach on his territory. Put its favorite treat such as millet spray in your hand and after about 3 weeks of doing this several times a day it will come. Don't make any sudden movements. Sometimes it helps to take the lid off the cage and when it is out of its cage it is not territorial and then it will like you. Good luck!

∙ 12y agoTalk to it as much as you can! Ive been bonding with my parakeet lately and its much more friendly. He used to bite everytime i put my hand in the cage. He doesnt anymore. If your parakeet bites, blow on him kinda hard. They don't like this. It will hopefully teach it to stop. My parakeet LOVES BELLS! So to get him on my hand, i simply brought the bell over to a place he couldn't reach with my hand just below it, showing that if he wanted the bell, he would have to get on my hand. When he gets on my hand, i give him a treat. But before doing this, bond with your parakeet as often as you can. Let he/she know that your hand is no threat. Put your parakeets cage where you go to most often, like in your room. Itll get more and more used to you, and soon let you pet it gently on the tummy and chest. Dont pet its back, that will scare it and make it much more likely to bite you. Hope this helps!

∙ 13y agotalk in a whisper and say come here and say pretty boy/girl and go slowly toward his talons and scoop him by there talons and he should stay on ur finger, and just take his food for a couple of hours and then put the food in ur hand and just leave ur hand in the front of the cage dont force ur hand to him, if hes hungry he will eat from ur hand

∙ 11y agoit is very simple. just calmly show your older parakeet to the new if they still dont get along buy a new cage for your new parakeet and put the cage right next to each other. soon they will get along
