A retaining wall under two feet high can be built from a variety of materials. Easiest would be rocks or salvaged concrete pieces. The first row should be buried at least half the thickness of the rocks below the lower level of dirt ( deeper is safer). Stack the next course leaning toward the higher side of the wall ( more tilt is safer). Tamp dirt or gravel around the rocks before setting the next course, because you won't be able to get to it later. Some places let you go as high as four feet, but most places require serious engineering to get that tall. Remember, rock and concrete are HEAVY. A Baseball-size rock falling two feet can KILL an infant or toddler, or make you limp for the rest of your life. Do it sober.
slap some blocks on it and your done!
