Speed and velocity are different. Speed is how fast something's moving. Velocity is speed combined with the direction the thing is moving.

Speed is calculated by dividing the distance traveled by the time it took to travel this distance.

For example, if you drove 100 miles in two hours the speed would be 100 divided by 2 or 50 miles per hour.
