Its a nonsense topic to discuss, a box should have four walls, a bottom and a cover, a box cant be made of one or two walls,it will remain open. ----------------------- 1. Ignore above. Single wall and double wall are technical terms for construction of corrugated board. 2. Calculate the blank size (L x W), based on a flat blank of the size needed for box in question. Depends on box style. For example, a Regular Slotted Container (RSC), 12 x 10 x 8 inches (glued manufacturer's joint) has a blank size of approximately 46.5 x 13.5, or about 4.4 square feet.

3. Convert blank size to square feet.

4. Convert to area of paper component materials. For liners, use blank area times number of liners (single wall = 2, double wall = 3). For corrugated medium, use blank width time blank length times take-up factor (varies with Flute. use 1.5 as conservative) times number of mediums (1 in single wall, two in double wall). In our example, 4.4 x 2 = 8.8 for liners, and, 4.4 x 1.5 = 6.6 for medium.

5. Convert to pounds of material. For typical light duty single wall boxes, use 42 lbs per thousand square feet for liners and 23 lbs per thousand square feet for mediums. In our example, 8.8 x 42/1000 = 0.37 lbs for liners, plus, 6.6 x 23 = 0.17 lbs for medium, Total = 0.54 lbs per box. 6. Convert to pounds per thousand. In example, 0.54 x 1000 = 540 lbs/1000 boxes. 7. Calculate material cost. Since this is only a very rough estimate, use $600 per ton. Early 2009 typical figure. In example, 540 x 600/2000 = $162/1000 boxes. 8. Estimate converted box price from material cost by doubling material cost. Example, $162 x 2 = $324/thousand boxes, $0.324 each. 9. Caution: Many assumptions and shortcuts taken. Actual is highly situation dependent. No better than maybe +- 50% even for best case.

Prices for corrugated boxes are calculated based on the size, strength and quantity of boxed needed. Any supplier of these products will be able to provide information, either in the form of an online calculator, a pricing table, or directly by their sales staff.

if you mean single or double corrugated cardboard, I would call a paper / box company and ask them directly what they charge, and ask them for specs.

In theory, the cost for double corrugated would be double plus another cost for another layer of adhesive, but manufacturing processes might involve preset thicknesses, so it might be more per unit of area.

If they price it by VALUE, they might price it by how much more they can raise the specs. Good luck with your project.

Calculation for corrugated boxes involve a few of the following 1. Box size in mm 2. thickness of the box in terms of 3 ply, 5 ply, 7 ply ie. no. of layers of paper in the box. 3. Thickness of the paper in each layer in GSM (grams per sq. meter) eg, 100gsm, 120 gsm, 150 gsm etc. 4. Weight of the box is to be then calculated 5. Weight of the box is then multiplied by rate of the paper+conversion cost.

for eg. for a box of 254mm x 225mm x 150mm 3 ply box of 100 gsm weight is calculated as follows

Length of the board = 2 x length of box +2 x width of box + joint allowance + triming allowance to calculate length of boards 254mm + 3mm (for thickness of 3ply) lenght = (254+3) + (225+3) + (254+3) + (225+3) + 25mm (for joint) + 20mm (for trimming) = 257+228+257+228+25+20 = 1015mm Length of the board is 1015mm to calcuate width of the board 1/2 width of box + Height of box + 1/2 widht of box (112.5mm + 3mm) + (150mm + 6mm) + (112.5mm +3mm) + 20mm = 407mm Width of the board is 407mm to calulate the weight of the box

length of the board x width of the board x GSM of the paper x ply for 3 ply it is take as 3.5 as one layer in the middle is 1.5 times more than plain sheet. so the calculation is done in meters to get the weight in kgs. convert mm into meter by dividing by 1000 and paper wt. is in grams divide it by 1000 to get in Kilogram (1015/1000) x (407/1000) x (100/1000) x 3.5=0.144587 approx 145 grams.
