How do you catch an ant on Animal Crossing City Folk and when?

You can catch an ant when you leave a white turnip- which you can buy from Joan on Sundays- outside for a few days, it will turn rotten and there will be ants eating them! Please give me some good points!

First, buy a turnip from Joan (she comes to town on sundays) and leave it in your pockets to rot, then, put it on the ground for a couple of minutes and then you should see specks on the turnip! those specks are actually ants.

Put some spoiled turnips out side wait a few hours and there should be some ants on them, You can repeat this as long as you like until the turnip gets all eaten up.
