How do you change a starter on a 1999 ford ranger?

Disconnect the battery. Disconnect the positive side first. Using a floor jack, preferrably, raise the left front of the truck. Be certain the jack won't shift and drop the truck on you. Use jack stand's if necessary. You may want to carefully take the oil filter off, if you have not done this sort of thing before. All that will really do is give you more eyeball room. There will be either 2 or 3 bolt's to take off,using a rachett,of course. Look at how the wire's are connected to the old starter and draw a diagram if necessary. Unhook the wire's. Grab you'r new starter and reverse the procedure. When hooking your battery up,as with any electrical circuit, hook up the ground(nuetral) first, then the positive. Before you take the truck down, or try to start, take a minute to check what you have done to be sure it is right. It won't take long and may save some cussing for something else. It really is not that difficult to do. Good luck and be safe doing it.
