Should be located in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose Drain about 1 gallon of coolant from the radiator
Remove this housing
Note how thermostat is installed
Clean both surfaces
Replace thermostat and gasket
Re-fill coolant slowly to prevent an air lock
Start engine and look for leaks
Run engine to normal operating temperature with heater on
Re-check coolant level
it is the same for all Mazda with a v6

Thermostat may not be opening
Thermostat is gone, change it

any of the DIY auto repair manuals will usually show an exploded view of the engine.

You need to replace the entire assembly . done mine 2 ours joe

go to auto zone site,enter year,make,engine size,then look up thermostat,then to right off screen it will have repair guide,click on that and it will show and tell you how to replace,good luck.
