You'll need to raise the engine enough to get the pan off. The frame cross-member prevents getting the pan off. Disconnect the front motor mounts and raise the engine a few inches. Then drain the oil and remove the oil pan. The oil pump should be RIGHT THERE. It comes off with two or three small bolts and the siphon pickup and screen assembly will come off with it. It's not a difficult job but it's annoying when you get grit in your eyes and drip oil all over you.
While you're at it, thoroughly clean the pan.
Now the bad news.
If you're replacing the oil pump because the engine has low oil pressure, good luck. Low oil pressure is almost always the result of worn bearings and replacing an oil pump will make little if any difference. Try a heavier weight oil first. If you've been using 5W15, change to 10W30 or even 15W50. If the oil pressure comes up, even a little, it's NOT the oil pump.
uhmmmmm there is no such thing a a k1500 with a 318 cubic inch engine.
