This is extremely difficult unless you are a double-jointed orang utan - in theory the driver's handbook tells you how. If you're in the UK take it to Halfords who will do it while you wait for £5.99 plus the cost of the bulb. Money well spent!
On either side, you have the knobs on the side which you switch to vertical, now pull the cover off. Now, you can see the light holder. It's about a foot long and has a push clip in the middle. Press in the clips and pull out the holder and replace the bulb. Now go backwards to put it all back together.

If you can't get to the back of the light through the trunk, you have to remove the light to change the bulb from the rear.
Remove the 3 nuts from behind the light housing in the trunk. Gently work housing free. You only need to change the bulbs that are dead.
You probably need to change your back brakes.

On fuse panel under dash to left of steering column.
Left the rear hatch and remove the headliner trim and headliner ( Partially). Unplug the brake light wire that leads to the light housing. Loosen 2 screws below the light and remove carefully.
open the boot, on theapposite side of the brake light there are 2 nuts and bolts. undo them and the light will come off. cut the wire connecting the brake light then use clip or crimp wire connectors to the 2 wires
