How do I adjust a stoplight switch on my mazda 626 LX V6
Typically the light will remain on if the fluid is low, or maybe the ebrake just pulled just enough that it is on..... or the switch that is triggered by the handle is faulty
You have to go inside the trunk and remove the circular plastic covers from behind the lights. Then you have to unscrew the entire light and you can access the bulbs to replace them.
To change a brake light you need to open the trunk and remove the cover behind the light. Pop out any clips using a screwdriver or needlenose. Using a 10mm deep socket, pull off the three nuts holding the light on. Once you pull the light off you can twist out each light by turning counterclockwise about 1/4 turn.

Probably a brake light switch problem. May be able to adjust, or may need to replace. I just replaced the brake light switch in my 1998 Mazda Protege LX and the problem came back. I believe the cruise control could be shorting out the brake light switch.
From inside the trunk.
