Depending on the year and model/trim of your car, there are two possibilities here.
If the information console (the overhead console in which the map light is located) does NOT have a built-in garage door opener, then you can simply grab the front end of the console, and pull down. This will remove the console, and expose the light bulbs which can easily be replaced.
If the console DOES have a built-in garage door opener, then you must locate a small screw that is towards the windshield. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw, and then pull off the faceplate to expose the bulbs.
Whatever you do, NEVER use a flat head screwdriver to pry the console off. Use your hands only. Using screwdrivers just gouges the plastic or tears the head-liner on your car, and makes it look like a botched job.
This is the correct protocal for a 2000 300M.

use a tiny screwdriver to pop off the plastic piece that you push to turn the light on, then the bulb just pops out 1. Find the "hinged" side of the plastic light cover (the side that doesn't go up and down.) 2. Insert the tip of a flat-head screw-driver between the plastic light cover and the surrounding frame. The tip should be on the side of the hinge, about 1/4" away from either corner. The cover will pop right out. 3. Use your screwdriver to pop out the light bulb. My EX-L required a 12V-8A bulb. Easy!
It is really simple. All you have to do is remove the plastic cover for the map light and the bulb is right there. If you put a screwdrive in the middle side fo the clear cover you can pry the cover off and have access to the light. The cover is made to be removed this way so don't use excessive pressure or you might break it.
Answerfirst remove the light cover then just twist the bulb and it should come right off.^^ this info is wrong. You'll damage the socket if you twist the bulb. You need to pull the bulb out; it takes a bit of work, I managed to do it with a pair of pliars being very careful not to break the bulb itself (if you did I don't suppose it would be a problem since you're replacing it anyway). Then, you just pop in the replacement bulb and replace the cover. I did it on my 2001 camaro, though I can't imagine the 2000 being much different.
You are in luck, I just finished doing that this afternoon. You must remove the entire upper console. Theere is one screw in the from, right above the rear mirror assembly. Once you remove that, simply slide the entire console forward until it releases. There will be one red electrical connection that will need to be disconnected. Turn the console over and remove the map light assembly, remove lense and change bulb.
