The NP205 Transfer case takes 2.5qts. There has been quite a bit of discussion concerning the type of oil (gear vs ATF) from 1980 on. It's suspected that the change to Dexron I later on was for fuel economy. They're virtually indestructible so any type of oil is good; unless it's mated to the NV4500.
