There should be a plug/bolt located underneath your car. If your facing the front of the car it would be underneath to the left of the oil pan. It should have a circular plug with a square insert in the center on the side of the pan pointing out to the front right tire.

Always use Genuine Honda Transmission Fluid. Other types may not have the additives that are designed to help keep the Honda transmission lubricated and quiet.

There is no dipstick for the transmission, Honda/Isuzu calls it "lifetime fluid". They really don't even specify a fluid change for the life of the vehicle. You might want to call Honda and see if they have changed the recommended fluid change or check intervals. When I worked at a Honda dealer, there was no certain time or mileage specified. Neat huh? That's what happens when Isuzu gets into the mix......

Place a drip pan beneath the transmission of your 1997 Monte Carlo. Remove the transmission fluid plug. Allow the transmission fluid to drain out. Replace the transmission plug to its original position. Fill the transmission with fluid.
