To make an entire image transparent or partially transparent, insert a shape such as a rectangle into your Office document, give the shape a picture fill using the image that you want, and then change the picture fill'sTransparencysetting.

1. Find the picture you want to add transparency to and add it onto a Word Document.

2. Select the picture and go to the Picture Tools tab at the top of the screen.

3. Click on Picture Effects. It is to the right of the pre-made effect bar. The image looks like a colorless eraser.

4. Mouse over the Bevel tab.

5. Find 3D Options at the bottom of the menu and click on it.

6. Find the Surface section and open the Materialsmenu.

7. Select any of the Translucent materials

8. If you want to change the appearance further, go to Lighting and select any one of the effects.

I hope this helped you! You can images like this and do a few cool things (not as cool as Photoshop!). I can make "gemstones" like this with only a few other effects, though it gets very monotonous.
