Check the site www.maxima.org - Look at the forum "Stickies" - there are a number of how-to's for nearly all maxima's including water pump change-out. Since you have a 1997 model, look under "4th Generation Maxima" Water pump service on you 1997 is one of the more difficult DIY fixes since the pump is driven by the timing chain, recesssed in the engine, and somewhat difficult to get to.

∙ 8y agoThe easiest way is to do so through the pasenger side.take off tire and splash gaurd.then remove all of the belts.After locating water pump take out as many bolts as possible then you must remove the timing belt cover so that you can finish taking out the rest of the bolts.Youalso may want to consider replacing the timing belt.

∙ 9y agoDrain the water from your 2000 Ford F1 50 pickup truck cooling system. Remove the belt from your water pump. Remove the water return hose from the water pump. Remove the water pump retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new water pump.
