70,000 is standard on timing belts. Change the water pump at the same time because they die at the same mileage.
You should change the water pump when changing the timing belt for convenience. Subaru recommended timing belt change interval at 105k miles. Here a link for DIY: http://www.iwsti.com/forums/how-install/154977-04-sti-timing-belt-change.html I wouldn't recommend DIY for noob since the work is quite extensive. I just let it to the pro for my timing belt change, although I didn't change my water pump at the time for the lack of money.
A WATER PUMP ON A CHEVY IMPALA IS ABOUT $20-30 DOLLARS.The cost of installing it should be about 60-80 dollars,i have an 04 impala myself and i had to change mine they usually go bad at about 80,000 miles.
When it starts leaking are making noise.
you need a new water pump seal. also check to see if the shaft is worn might need to replace that too you need a new water pump
