First you will need to be logged in - (Trick answer). On most mobile phones you can either view from the Mobile site or the Full Site (Full site is the only option to change/edit your information). Once you are logged into the full site, you will need to view your profile. Once your page has uploaded (if you are using the new fb layout) you will click the info button to the left of the page. At the bottom of the info page there you will find basic info and the option to edit your status, name, work, education etc.
So if you are single ----- spell it out! Hope this helps...

Use safari. Facebook for iPhone(app) might not be able to do. I used safari the previous round and managed to do it.

Yes, you can change your relationship status on facebook without anybody seeing. If you go to the information bar under your profile picture you can check off what you do and dont want people to see, Just unclick relationship status and that will be completley private for you
It depends on your social circle and how closely people follow your Facebook activity. Typically, close friends, family members, and curious acquaintances may reach out to inquire about the change in your relationship status.
