How do you check cool temp sensor on a 5.8l f150?
Replace the coolant temp sensor
The sensor is located in the sensor assembly. It is inside of the transmission, the pan will have to be dropped to gain access.
underneath the intake manifold on the drivers side
Te 2000 F150 does not use a coolant temperature sensor. The engine uses a cylinder head sensor close to the head back to check the temperature.
If you cant find your 2000 F150 4.2 V6 Temp. gauge sensor on the intake manifold, try looking underneath the engine. Back of driver side cyl. head that's where I found mine sensor was broken off. Jumper this connection turn key to on position, if gauge goes replace sensor.
start by check your coolant level. Otherwise it could be temp sensor or fan not coming on to cool car.
Look just in front of the radiator on the driver's side.
Thermostat stuck open or no stat at all. Faulty temp sensor or Gauge.
If the check engine light has or is illuminated, check for codes, remember this is an OBD I system. I've seen the coolant temp sensor with two wires for the ECM (not the single wire temp sensor for the temp gauge) do that.
Defective temperature gauge or defective temperature sensor?
Check the sensor connection underneath your distributor, its a single pin sensorwith a yellow and green wire to it. On this diagram, its the green sensor...
Have you had the coolant temp sensor checked? It might be that the engine is running hot but the sensor isn't showing the temp is hot.
