Use a mild dish soap and a soft brush. After drying the item carefully, wax with a quality furniture wax. Be sure that the wax does not contain silicon! A mixture containing part Carnuba wax is ideal for the hardness of the wax. Buff with a soft cloth and enjoy!
If your piece is badly scratched, try taking it to a jeweler and see if they will buff it with jewelers rouge.
Hint: Check to see that the store you take it to does their own work! If your piece is sent out for repair, quality control and responsibility for workmanship and loss become an issue. Support your local Jeweler, there are few Jewelers left in Jewelry Stores these days!
