When this engine was produced it came with different horsepower ratings depending on year and what vehicle it was installed in. The 454 in 1970 cranked out 450 hp in LS6 trim. The LS5 version of this engine only produced 390 hp the very same year. Same 454 engine but 60 hp difference the same year. You would have to know the year and what trim the engine was to know the actual hp.

No. The bore, and stroke determine the cid. And they are different on these two motors. The 454, has a longer stroke.

Several engines were available. The 305 cid (gas) had 170 HP and the 350 cid (gas) had 210 HP.
The 1970 Chevelle SS had 4 engine options, ALL big blocks. The L34 was a 350 HP 396, the L78 was a 375 HP 396, the LS5 was a 360 HP 454 and the LS6 was a 450 HP 454. Note, these are the factory horsepower ratings. Also note in 1970 the 396 was bored out to 402 CID, but was still called a 396 for marketing reasons. The L34 was the base model engine, the other three engines were all optional for super sport models.
