You put the number (without the decimal point) in the top part of the fraction. In the bottom part, you put a 1, followed by as many 0's as there are digits after the decimal point.

Examples:

0.85 = 85/100

0.1144 = 1144/10000

4.3 = 43/10

Simplify as appropriate; since the only prime factors of 10 (and powers of 10) are 2 and 5, you only need to check whether the numerator is divisible by 2 or by 5. In the examples above, only the first & second can be simplified as they are divisable by 5&2 respectivly:

0.85=17/20

0.1144= 143/1250
