An automatic Airsoft gun runs on two types of power sources. Electricity and Gas.
Basic Electric Function:
Basically a standard battery will power a simple 2 wire transfer with a fuse that varies. the power will be connected to a motor when the trigger is squeezed, connecting the power source to the motor. there is a plate on most models that controls wether the motor makes one revolution or multiple ones. At the end of the motor is a gear known as the pinion gear. this will spin 3 gears named the spur sector and bevel gear. these gears will pull back teeth on a piston held forward by a spring which is held in place by a spring guide. once the gears pull the piston all the way it releases and shoots into the cylinder compressing air that shoots out of the air nozzle, into the hop up to propel the BB forward.
I am not a specialist by any means in gas guns, but by all means, try this:
The hammer hits a valve releasing a tiny bit of gas. everytime a new BB is chambered, depending on the model but for this I will just refer to a gas blowback M9, the slide goes back. pull the trigger again, release the gas propel the BB forward and chamber a new round. full auto simply allows the slide to move back and forth freely until locked into place by the trigger being disengaged.

There is no difference! A m16 or any other gun must be blowback to work. Are you talking about airsoft or something, it does not matter. So a real m16 is already blowback, cant change that! and if your talking about airsoft it does not matter

Should you get a blowback airsoft pistol or a non-blowback?
Blowback pistols are obviously more expensive than non-blowback pistols. On the other hand non-blowback pistols generally have a higher fps and are alot cheaper. It seems that they can use CO2 with less damage or wear and tear to the gun. They seem harder to clean and it seems as though alot of them have internal magazines which are a bit annoying to load. Blowback pistols are obviously easier to load and easier to clean, however it seems as though alot of guns have atleast one problem. That problem could be with a leaking or a slide that doesn't go back all the way. Blowback pistols ALWAYS seem like they have a leaky mag problem and are gas whores, while non-blowback pistols are extremely gas efficient and there mags never leak.
What is a nonblowback airsoft gun?
blowback is when the bolt of the rifle, ( the thing that pushes the ball out of the barrel and at your opponent or target) blows back, or the slide on the pistol goes back, after every shot. usually its gas or electric guns, never spring action guns. non-blowback does not have this feature, without it it is much less realistic, and less cool. but when using rifles or SMGs, it doesn't exactly matter. but it does make it look cool.
