Coming from experience. You first have to come to terms and realize what you are doing is wrong. You are only hurting your body sweety. Bulimia can cause problems, too many to name and for one even prevent you from one day having children. It causes more harm than good. You yourself need to stop and realize that you want to live and lead a healthy life, and that you are BEAUTIFUL and NOTHING is WRONG with you. If you have confidence in your self, people see that and admire that. To get rid of the pooch.....proper diet and exercise....that does not mean starving yourself. Just eat what is right, and avoid fast foods, grease, and too much sodium intake because it will make your body retain water. Your body will thank you and you will see the right changes! There is nothing better than someone like the above poster who has gone through this and offers good advice. I just wanted to add that "Weight Watchers" is an excellent place to starts. It's more about corrective eating habits than diet and you will end up the weight you should be. Yes, you will lose weight if you are truly over-weight. You need not tell them anything confidential about yourself. They may ask you what weakness' you have such as snacking between meals, a desire for sweets (especially chocolate) but as far as your Bulimia it is no one else's business unless you choose to make it their business. Weight Watchers (no I don't work for them, but have gone to them) has a great support system. Good luck hon

Most people believe bulimia is a mental disease but from what I can gather, there is research into a possible physical cure for bulimia, here is where I found that information.

http://www.ahc.umn.edu/healthtalk/kare/bulimia031005/home.HTML

You cannot really cure bulimia, but you can treat the symptoms and causes.

Nutrition is big factor, diet usually affects your mental state.

Steps that may help to cure bulimia:

1. Come off contraceptive pill, or any other hormones. It is diffucult to learn to control body with large amounts of hormones floating around. Learn how you are normally and then maybe after a few years you can re-introduce the pill. (p.s. if you are

taking these it may take 2-3 months to feel ok again after coming off these, you will be hormoneless for a bit).

2. NO pastries or wrapped chocolate confectionary. Plenty of fruit - bananas, raisins, peaches. Stick to wholemeal toast or wholemeal pitta bread until confidence in rest of diet and portion sizes returns. One slice of toast is plenty - two after excercise - if you are hungry then just pile up your toast with a mountain of cheese, nuts, lettuce, tomatoes, avocadoes, ham etc. Make mountains of it and you will feel full but not sick. Also, always toast bread - don't eat it untoasted. No sweet pastries or cakes NONE until you are sorted. After eating slice of cake - immediately follow with slice of wholemeal toast w/ olive oil, or WEAK coffee to offset sugar content of cake.

Must learn to balance sugar levels. It will take a couple of years, just do not eat cake or shop sweets or pastries until you have this under control. Make your own sweets - honey on yogurt and cereal. Jam on toast...

3. Protein - eat your protein every day. You most likely don't eat enough because you are puking every day and it's not easy to puke up. You need white meat - chicken and turkey are best. Also, fish twice a week. Red meat once a week. Eggs. Maybe nut

roast/ veggie burgers once or twice a week too. Every day.

4. Eat every hour or two hours at least. Keep your sugar levels constant throughout the whole day. As a bulimic you're likely verging on diabetic. You must learn to spread your sugar intake through the day. This way you will learn to feel in control

and understand your body and emotions. 6 teaspoons of sugar in one day. One piece of toast = 1 teaspoon sugar Toast+jam =2 teaspoons. One apple =1 teaspoon. After you eat something - see how you feel an hour later - that is directly attributable to

what you ate. Do you like that feeling? Do you feel in control, can you identify which vitamin and mineral that food which you are had and why it's made you feel good? Are you deficient in that vitamin/ mineral?

5. Your guts are ruined from the puking. You need to look after them (look at your yellow tongue to check the condition of your guts). Drink one of those bio-live yogurts - acidphilus. They are excellent actually. And make porridge - good fibre for damaged guts.

6. No point taking good bacteria withouth killing yeasts inside you at the same time - you won't want to eat any of these things in the list that follows but you have to force yourself and you will feel better very quickly. It's not the taste of the food but what good it is doing to you. Eat Brazil nuts, carrots, broccoli, grapefuits, lemons, apple cider vinegar, coconut, olives, yogurt, garlic, peppermint, avocado, asparagus.

7. Learn your monthly cycle - at certain times you will be deficient in some vitamins so supplement them. Make sure you get your vitamin B complex, FOLIC acid, iron, ZINC, vitamin C to repair your poor intestines!

So you've eaten something bad and you feel sick? Don't panic. Think about the long run.

1- you have eaten the same/worse and done worse to your body before - whatever you do now is not worse than what you have been done before so hold yourself through the next few hours calmly. Do not be sick, remember this feeling and let it remind you that you do not want to do this anymore - in the long run. A little extra weight now is your punishment for eating something bad. Don't do it again. It is more harmful to your body to be sick than not be sick. You need to let your guts work normally. Ok you are abusing your insulin levels (you will most likely fall asleep after your binge if you don't puke), but that's fine this time. You've abused your insulin more than enough times for this time to make any difference. Just eat one slice wholemeal toast and drink a weak coffee, eat some almonds to counteract the sugar and get on with your day.

2- you need to stop being bulimic because if you don't you can become diabetic and infertile. You will lose all your friends and you will continue being depressed. You will waste precious years of your life and waste ridiculous amounts of money on food and waste ridiculous time sitting in front of the toilet!

3- it will take about 2 years for your new routine to become second nature. Theory is you need to do something (e.g. turning off living room light when you walk out the room) 12 times for it to exist as a possibility, but you need to do something 30 times for it to be a possibility in your routine, 90 times for you to think about it when you are leaving the living room - but a whopping 320 times for it to become second nature so that you don't even have to think about it when doing it. So every time you eat something - for 320 days probably (but likely a year or two) you will need to be thinking about what is healthy and what is a normal portion size etc. Drink lots of soup and water - not much caffeine as it lowers your sugar levels - but you can drink tea. When your sugar levels are low you will crave sweets. So you have a low sugar level, just come back from a jog? Quick, make some soup. Soup and cheese and toast. Then once that's given you some energy, put on the pasta/ rice/ potatoes. Normal size portion of pasta/ rice other carbohydrates.

Learn your portion sizes. Portion of carbs means the size of your hand. It's fine to still be hungry, mountain up your portion with lettuce, avocado, spring onions etc. But also EAT AGAIN one or two hours later. It's fine to eat a lot - just not all at once otherwise you have to puke. Stay in control of your sugar level diligently for at least 2 years. At the beginning it is very hard not to have a quick fix to your sugar low - binge and puke. That's why you should preempt your hunger, make sure you are hydrated and blood circulating well (stretching excercides and light excercise every couple of

hours).

I am MUCH thinner now than I was when I was bulimic! Amazing! And have a lot more time, and energy and fun! And never depressed! Cellulite vanished too - it used to be all the way down my legs even though I never looked overweight. Now just tiny bit on my bum! My skin is really firm now and it's not excercise, it's cos my little slim body is made of actual stuff, not just sugar and fat and white bread. I'm no longer allergic to things (used to have sensitive skin/ eczema).

One last thing - take notice of your posture - make sure you are giving your lungs enough space, do not collapse your chest, sit up, stand firm, rotate your pelvis head up. Breath through your nose. You need to be calm and confident and demanding of

yourself for the next few years but you will get out of it, everyone does. Basically it's al the chocolate makers fault - how come i never knew how bad those pastries and chocs and cakes really were??!!! Was told at school but it never really sunk in for some reason. Seemed normal to eat sweets and chocs everyday but it's not, it's really bad for you! You need a home-cooked and VARIED diet.

It depends on the severity of the condition. If you are throwing up absolutely everything you eat, you will rapidly lose weight because your getting rid of any calorie intake. If you eat a a meal and then thow up the next one, you may lose a few pounds but there will be no rapid weight loss. Either way, bulemia is not a safe or healthy way to lose weight.

When you are bulimic you binge and purge. You eat a lot more than your body can handle. A lot more than someone of your age and height should eat, then you purge. You force yourself to throw up and get that food out of your system before your body gets a chance to break down the food and nourish you. You lose weight because although your eating, your not letting the calories or fat stay in your body. Bulimia is a very damaging and dangerous disease. Your body does not get the nourishment it needs to survive.

You stop taking in so many calories in one sitting and also stop throwing them up and if you feel you cannot do this on your own then you need to join a group or see a counselor.
