When a toddler is having an temper tantrum you need to put them in time out. When they go to time out tell them they will be there for 10-15 minutes ( this a lifetime for a small child) and that they are to stay where you put them. Do NOT talk to them, do not make deals, do NOT hold them, do not play with them until after the time out. When the time out is over ask them why they had time out and tell them that you love them. The first time you do this you will have to keep putting your toddler back in the time out spot, but he/she will soon learn that you mean what you say.
Children usually throw tantrums because it gets them what they want, or it gets them attention. The best thing to do when your child throws a tantrum is to ignore them, literally. Just walk away without a word them, and if the child follows you, still throwing the tantrum, leave that room, too. And then after the child stops the tantrum, calmly discuss it and let the child know you will do that every time he or she throws tantrums.
If you do this every time the child throws a tantrum, the child will soon learn there is no 'payoff' to the tantrums. It will be nerve wracking for you the first few times you have ignore it, but it will pay off in the end.
The best way to discipline your child when they disobey you or throws a tantrum is to set them in a hallway or on a chair away from everyone else. To best know how long you should keep them there, I have always used the rule of their age. If your child is 5 years old and throws a tantrum, they get a time-out for 5 minutes. This normally helps correct bad behaviour.

Temper tantrums can have both short-term and long-term impacts on a child's behavior. In the short term, temper tantrums can reinforce attention-seeking behavior and teach children that throwing a tantrum is an effective way of getting what they want. In the long term, if temper tantrums are not effectively managed and appropriate coping skills are not taught, they can contribute to ongoing behavior problems and difficulty regulating emotions. It is important for parents and caregivers to provide consistent discipline and teach children alternative ways of expressing their needs and frustrations.

how would you contribute to the growth of your child? what are the values you want to inculcate in your child? How do you deal with your child if he or she show tantrums? How does your child get along with siblings and peer group?
