Answer 1
The best method of disposal is to DONATE all of your computers and periferal equipment to one of many of many charitable organizations which use them to teach computer repair and operation to the needy.
Also, after repair some of the computers/equipment are sold in their own stores to generate funds to provide salarys to instructors, scholarships and other assistance to those in need.
A couple of organizations in our area are the Goodwill, and the Salvation Army. There are others, but I cannot recall them now.
Another source for disposal is the group of small business operated by computer oriented people who either repair/overhaul them, or dismantle them for recycling which benefits us all by reducing the load on our landfills, especially for hazardous components.j3h
Also, if your computer is completely toast, like there is no bringing it back to life, you can take it to a store that will recycle computers. Some stores are Best Buy and Staples. Check the links for a site where you can type in your zip code and what you're looking for and it will give you places to recycle in your area. A good search site for this is www.earth911.com
Electronic waste is such an increasing issue there are a lot more electronic recycling services becoming available. Just make sure it is reputable. There has been issue with e-waste (electronic waste) being exported to developing countries that can not properly handle it.
A good company in the United States is All Green Electronics Recycling. They offer free service and have over 100 drop-off locations and do free pick-ups all across the country. Check out www.allgreenrecycling.com or call (800)780-0347

When bleach is used, the waste and by-products produced include chlorine gas emissions, contaminated water, and sludge containing harmful chemicals. These by-products can have negative impacts on the environment and human health if not properly managed and treated.
The people in the chairs using the computers. If the end users are not trained properly they can often be tricked into circumventing the best security measures!
Biodegradable products are generally better for the environment because they can break down into natural substances over time, reducing waste and pollution. Non-biodegradable products can contribute to environmental problems such as overflowing landfills and ocean pollution if not properly disposed of.
Making the raw material from which computers are made for starters involves the introduction into the environment of many pollutants, running them and their ancillaries takes energy this puts yet more pollutants in the air. and the batteries that run laptops are returned to pollute the environment. Semiconductors are mined by poor people in back country areas where food is not available, but Gorillas for instance are, these animals are killed to be eaten while the materials needed to produce our computers is being acquired. Regardless of what the company's say regarding recycling the truth is that only a small proportion of these devices are disposed of responsibly.
Toxic components used in the production of computers include lead in solder, mercury in some types of monitors, and brominated flame retardants in plastic components. These substances can be harmful to both human health and the environment if not properly handled during manufacturing and disposal.
In a simple sense, computers, if used properly, simplify work.
