There's really no way to explain via text how to draw in that style. Still here are some things to keep in mind: Most characters tend to have a roundish square face that changes a bit depending on their gender, how big is their jaw, if they're skinny or chubby, etc. Most bodies are drawn in a squareish shape, while still making them look like bodies.

Anyway, my advice is, take a picture of someone (A friend, a celebrity, even yourself as you probably know your face and distinctive traits better than anyone), have a Scott Pilgrim volume next to you and start drawing away this person's face. If you get stuck on something (Expression, body parts, etc) flip through the volume until you find what you're looking for.

Keep going like this, and soon you won't need to use the volume or picture, you'll actually be able to draw a character from scratch without any references.
