In the article "Missing the past Embracing the Future" by Gayatree Siddhanta Sarma teach us an excellent lesson about home culture beliefs that always are pass along by imitation from one generation to the next. Gayatree Siddahanta is an Indian that next to her father's pride grew flowers and served organic food directly from the yard to give food to his children. Gayatree had learned to be passionate about gardenia. Even though she had moved to America a years ago, Miriam her daughter is learning to plant and enjoy flowers and gathering of animals as well as her mother did ones. In my opinion this is a good story about culture and values, it does not matter where we go those experiences, and the way of life acquire for our relatives will be transmitted generation to generation.
I also had a similar experience in my life, so I feel identify myself with this story. To begin with, I came to America six years ago as well as Gayatree I have left behind the best time of my life, my infancy and adolescence. And of course I want to continue my values through my son for instance, our catholic novena which is a pray that start nine days before Christmas. Too, the famous holly weeks in my City Popayan, Colombia these are very similar to the ones in Sevilla, Spain, and date back to colonial times. Today my son just turned a year, but one day he will be grown enough to appreciate of all it. Consequently, I would feel joyful to share with him all my background not letting lose our family traditions.
In conclusion this article has been for me an example how culture always goes with you where ever you go. And, a good quote for me is "I appreciate the blessed childhood that I had. I now equally enjoy the nest we have built here in the United States."
