But there are some bed bug treatment stuff you can get on line which may kill the bugs and not harm you if sleeping in the bed. You may need to do a Google search to find these. But you do need to be very sure of what you are using and buying. After the first extermination effort that is not it. You need to wait a few days and do it all again as described above except you may not need to get rid of your new mattress but you do need to thoroughly sweep that too. You can only eventually get rid of the bedbugs by a persistent and repeated effort but it takes time, effort, patience and hard work, and it can be soul destroying when after doing all that you find they are still biting you at night. There is not one specific way of getting rid of bed bugs. Bombs and bug foggers will not work. There are other successful methods you can use:

1.Vacuum rugs, bedding and bed frames thoroughly and once done, remove bag and replace vacuum bag and repeat. It the infestation is very bad, you may want to consider discarding the mattress all together.

2. Remove all bedding, drapes or curtains and wash on the hottest temperature and dry in dryer. During hot day, you can put bedding in a plastic bag and leave out for a few days. Bed bug dry up in temperatures of 120F degrees.

3 .There is a process called thermacure, that will rid your home of bed bugs. You must hire a profession company who specialized in the treatment. The home is threaded with ducts and extremely hot air is pumped into your home, about 112 F, which will kill the insects.

4. Steam clean anything and everywhere parasites tend to hide. This will kill both adult bugs and their eggs.

5. Sprinkle diatomaceous dirt in areas where bug tend to hide. This will kill bugs with its microscopically sharp edges as they walk across.

6. Sprays, there are a lot of bed bug spays on the market, such as PureClean, Sleep Tight, Bug Patrol. Find a product that is the most effective and the safest to use.

Types of Spays

Some product in sprays contain pyrethians, which attack the nervous system of the insect and kill it. Other products to choose from, contain oil of clove or winter green others alcohol and some enzymes. Enzymes kill on contact, are non-toxic to humans and pets and does not irritate when it come in contact with skin.

Where to Spray

What ever you decide to use, remember to treat the head board, bed frames, the base boards around the bed and any furniture in the room . Concentrate under tables and cracks and at leg joints.

Heating everything in the house (including behind walls) to over 130° for at least 30 minutes is the only 100% successful way to kill them. (they will die at 120° almost instantly if out in the open)

As an employee of a company that performs thermal remediation for bed bugs, I must correct the previous statement. Bed bugs begin to die around 113 degrees, and it generally takes around 15-20 minuted for it to be fully effective. With our thermal treatments, homes are heated to temperatures between 130-140 degrees, and that temperature is maintained for 4-6 hrs. This method of bed bug control can be very effective.

Time Involved

Thermal remediation is completed in one visit, which generally takes ten to twelve hours from start to finish. A properly executed chemical treatment requires three treatments, spaced out evenly over a six week period. The time involved with chemical treatments varies from location to location, usually taking approximately one to two hours, however first treatment can run anywhere from 2 -8 hours depending on size of the property and amount of techs sent.

Preparation

Chemical extermination for bed bugs requires a lengthy preparation, which causes displacement throughout the course of the treatment. This preparation includes, but is not limited to, the full processing of all clothing, linens, curtains and other fabrics (done by washing/drying or dry cleaning), reducing clutter, emptying drawers, and much more. The first step in thermal remediation is an inspection/estimate. Our technician/estimator will determine the size of your home, property, office, etc.; what needs to be removed and treated in ways other than heat; and explain the overall preparation. During the estimate, we will explain the entire procedure, show you what needs to be prepared, determine heater amounts and crew size, estimate time requirements, etc.

Chemical Procedure

During our chemical treatments for bed bugs, we provide three individual visits. During the course of treatments, our technicians apply different products and chemicals as well as use steam. The products used are based on the latest efficacy studies as to what is most effective now in killing bed bugs. This is important because we are finding more and more cases of resistance to pesticides. We steam cracks and crevices, couches, beds stuffed chairs etc. to help eliminate eggs as well as insects. In addition we inject wall outlets and switch plates with dust. If there are hardwood floors with lots of cracks and crevices in them we will apply food grade DE to these areas. Following each chemical treatment, healthy residents will need to remain out of the treated area for a minimum of four hours (time required is different for elderly, children, and those with certain medical conditions). Safety

Thermal is safer for households with small children, cancer survivors, pregnancy, or people in ill health. Although we can use all natural products such as food grade DE and steam, for chemical treatments, this will increase the number of visits required and thus the cost of a chemical treatment.

Thermal Temperature

ThermaFume operates at 140 degrees except in cases of delicate items such as pianos or antique furniture. We can fumigate these items or reduce our temperature and cook for a longer time period. Average cook time once we reach our optimal temp is 4 hours. In cases with a lot of clutter this can be extended to 6 hours.
