There are several ways to work out the average of something but the one i use (witch i think is the more common way) is to add all the variables together and divide by the number of variables e.g. 1+2+3+10+18+3+6 = 43 now divide by the number of variables present ( 7 ) and the average is 6.142 (in most cases you won't need to put the average more accurate than three decimal points) hope this helps more than the previous answer

There are three types of average.

1. Mean - is when you add up all the values (your three numbers) in the set and divide by the count of values in the set (in this case three). This is the most common interpretation of average, so if it was not specified, this is usually what is meant.
2. Median - is when you sort all the values in numerical order, and pick the value that is at the midpoint. If there are an even amount of values, there will be two that fall into the middle, in which case you take the mean of those two.
3. Mode - is when you select the value that occurs most frequently in the set. If there are multiple values that occur the most frequently, all of those values are considered the mode.

Example List :

1,1,4

The Mean is 2

The Median is 1

The Mode is 1

I think you are asking, How do you find the average of a set of numbers. If this is correct, then you add all values together, and divide by the number of values in the set to find the average.

lets say you have 10, 7 and 14 10+14=24 24+7=31 so you would divide them by three because you added three numbers so

_10_r_1/3 OR 10 r 1

Add all the numbers you want to average then divide by how many numbers there are. So if you want to find the average rainfall per month in a year for example, add all the rainfall from each month together and divide by 12 since there is 12 months.

For an unweighted average sum the grades you received for each assignment and divide by the total number of assignments, multiply by 100 to get a percentage.

If you have a weighted average in your class, find the average of each weighted section using the method above.
