Hi, First, do you have a 3 speed auto or a 4 speed? If this is concerning a 3 speed auto I had this very same problem. The VSS is an iuntegral part of the speedometer on the 3 speed. The problem is in one of three places, the speedometer (not repairable, only replaceable) the speedo cable (could be not fully connected on the speedo) or the car's computer. The speed is replaceable as the whole assy, I found it a few places, the speedo cable is the easiest to check, disconnect from the transmission so you have some cable to work with then remove the instrument panel assy and check that the cable is fully connected and not broken so that the cable is not staying connected, if it's broken, then get a new cable from a Chevy dealer and it's easy to replace just start at the instrument panel first or it's an impossible task. The instrument panel assy is eaqually easy to replace, just remove the speedo cable from the tranny first so you can have extra cable inside. If it's the computer then it's also easy to replace but so far I've only found that it was the cable and the speedo. If it's a 4 speed auto then the VSS is mounted on the rear of the tranny and is not to bad to replace. Good luck. Steve H.
The VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is located on the transmission. If the speedometer is not working, it is rarely the VSS causing the problem. I would first check fuses and the ECU
No
A VSS sensor is the Vehicle speed sensor and it is located on the transmission. It tells the computer how fast you are going and operates the speedometer and the ABS system.
The VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) moniters the speed of the vehicle.
vss= vehicle speed sensor. try the wheel.. id say there is nothing wrong with the sensor itself.. try the wiring
VSS=vehicle speed sensor. That acronym is the same for all OBDII compliant vehicles
VSS Sensor maybe.
The problem is more than likely your VSS( Vehicle Speed Sensor) located under your hood to the left of your intake. On Honda Accord, it is on top of the tranny, under the thermostat housing. It is a three wire sensor. If the VSS has failed, your check engine light will most likely be on.
Check VSS(vehicle speed sensor)on tranny, the most common problem of speedometer errs, providing your vehicle is equipped with a speedometer cable. Also,VSS,will cause erratic speedometer reads. - Big Daddy
All modern vehicles have a VSS sensor (Vehicle Speed Sensor) attached to the transmission or an axle that generates a speed signal. This signal is used by the speedometer, cruise control, and some of the engine and transmission computers.
Vehicle Speed Sensor
The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is on the transmission of all vehicles.
