How big a hole? If it is an upholstery hole, then perhaps you can match the fabric of the chair this way. If it is an overstuffed chair, there are frequently "skirts" around the leg of the chair. Go to the back of the chair and lift the "skirt". You will find an insert around the leg. This can be clipped for a small amount of material to match the chair without damaging the appearance of the upholstery. Carefully trim away the burn area, stuff the burn with cotton, then place the patch in the hole. BTW, buy some bonding material from the sewing shop, and keep it..it's useful. Place the bonding material around the edges of the burn, taking care not to let it come into view but making sure that it is all around the patch. Then heat with an iron according to manufacturer's directions. You have a repair for the chair. If this isn't satisfactory, then you might investigate going retro with arm covers and a head rest in complementary colors. Crocheted lace, shiny material, or denim chic are all good choices...and will cover the hole.

Is it acceptable to use a Chinese Chippendale dining room chair as an accent chair in one's living room?

Absolutely! Your choice of accents make a space personal, so if you love the chair, make it a real feature. If it has upholstery, make sure it is an interesting design that supports and enhances the design if the chair. Make sure the chair is placed in or near a focal point of the room and enjoy looking at it every time you use your living room. Remember, interior design is not about making a fashion statement (although magazines and TV shows might encourage this) but it is all about making a space that is pleasing to the eye, the sense of comfort, and the pleasure that you get from being in the space. Make it personal and make it you!

If your roommates cat destroys your chair in the living room after asking her to declaw it or keep it in her room can you sue?

You would probably have to have proof that you told her to declaw it or keep it in her room. (meaning it would either have to be recorded or in writing) You could probably A-Get a new roommate or B-Make her buy you a new chair/pay you for the one her cat destroyed.
