How do you freshen stale hot dog buns in microwave?

How much time do you have? 1) Slow method - leave them out in room temperature, they should thaw in 5 to 10 hours, depending of course on the temperature of your room. (Nome, Alaska will take longer than Cairo, Egypt). 2) Quick method - pop 'em in the microwave for about 10 to 15 seconds at a pop - if they don't thaw to your liking after the first 10 seconds, try again. DO NOT try to save time by putting them in for, say, 5 minutes. Just 10-15 seconds at a time.

I've used three ways: First Method - good - but not real quick - good for 6 or more buns: 1. Prehead oven 325 degress or so. 2. Lightly coat buns with water - don't soak it just brush on with fingers or basting brush. 3. Wrap in aluminum foil and bake for 10 minutes Method 2: 1. Lightly coat a bun or two with water - 2. Microwave for 10 seconds - repeat as necessary. Method 3. 1. Put pot of water on stove top and bring to boil. 2. Place buns in a collander on top of pot. Watch out on all of these methods - buns will get very hot - and soft of course.

Staleness happens when the water in the buns evaporate. The simplest way to add moisture is to dampen the bun slightly, then heat it to absorb the moisture.

Try this...dampen your fingers, then run them over the buns. Microwave them for 5 seconds and test if they are soft. Alternately, put them in the oven on low heat for 5 minutes. In both cases, cover the buns so they do not lose the moisture you just added.

You can set a cup of water in the microwave with the buns to help freshen them a bit. If they are still in the bag, you can sprinkle a few small drops of water in the bag with them, and place the bag in the microwave for around 20 seconds.
