How do you power up the fairies in Phantom Hourglass?

First you have to go to bannan island and talk to the old wayfarer. He says there is a mermaid but will only come out if no monsters are out. So go out and kill all the monsters. Then if you see the mermaid, dont walk up to it, instead hit it with your boomerang. Then go talk to linebeck, then go back into the old wayfarers house and get the fishing rod. The mermaid will stay in the wayfarers house and wont come back out.

To get fairies ( I think that's what you're saying ) you have to beat the first two bosses :

-1st boss : Isle of Ember ; Temple of Fire ; Boss ; Spirit of Power ; Heart Container.

-2nd boss: Isle of Gust ; Temple of *?* ; Boss ; Spirit of Wisdom ; Heart Container.

Then continue the game, and you will discover that Ciela ( the little white fairie that was guiding you ) is actually the Spirit of Courage ( she and Oshus - Grandpa - were captured by Bellum, so they split themselves in two - ouch! - so Ciela lost her memory and was not a Spirit any more, but a simple fairy).

sail to the temple of the gods. sail north from there. you should come across a MASSIVE sea tornado ( you will know when you see it) and sail into it. a frog should appear at the top and fire three arrows into him. he will reward you with a song. it is a teleportation song. play it and teleport to b2( the top, left hand option) and you will find the fairy queen.

When you have fixed the Bridge of Eldin go back to the desert where the missing piece of the bridge was and there should be a stairway(Also called the Cave of Ordeals).Enter and find it full of enemies beat all the enemies in the rooms until you reach a spring.Talk to the little thing in the middle of the spring and find out she is the great fairy.After that every 10 rooms you beat you will come to another spring and talk to her and she will release fairies into each spring.

P.S. The further you advance in the game the further you can get in the Cave of Ordeals.

You power them up by collecting power gems,but you have to have 10 or 20 to upgrade each of them.In order to actually upgrade them,go to the southwest part of the first map and discover "Spirit Island".Once there,defeat the monsters there outside,then go in to the cave,open the door,go up the steps and talk to the Spring.
