The Pit Bull was used for bringing in bulls on ranches. The Pit Bull would charge the bull and grab onto it's nose until the bull gave up (which it always did) and then herded into a corral by the dog. Later, Pit Bulls were used as fighting dogs, but more and more people want them as a family pet. Still, one must be cautious how to train their dog wisely. The best thing you can do is a get a good one on one trainer to work with you and your dog. Pit Bulls are getting the bad end of the stick because their owners haven't trained them properly and some Pit Bulls will attack people, children or other dogs and do a great deal of damage. Because of bad training many Pit Bulls are deemed the problem instead of the owner and put to death.

The best and only way to train a pitbull is to treat it with love and respect. I was the proud owner of a female pitbull for 15 years. I was told by my vet to let her go and had to choose a date to have her put down. Her spine had deteriorated to the point where she was in terrible pain but she refused to die because of her love for me. I spoiled her absolutely rotten and when my husband came along 7 years later, he fell in love with her and he spoilt her more than I did! She never attacked anyone but she was a fearless guard dog and would have happily died to protect me. She was the most loving animal imaginable and her intelligence and personality were amazing. She smiled, she sulked, she got embarressed and she was completely tuned in to my emotions. if I was upset, she would crawl into my lap and cuddle me ~ all 40 kilos of her! It is the owners that need to be looked at ~ not the dog.

That is something that comes natural to them. They will obey and protect their owner no matter what. I recommend for you to let him be treated outside by other persons so he learns to be good to other people outside your home. A pitbull will act without gesitation if he sees a threat to you.

By being sincere. Not pushing it. You have to let them come around. However, I warn, they can tell when your motives are other than what you are portraying. They are extremely smart. You cannot fool one. And I guess I would have to input, it also depends upon what they have been through. They are also, very sensative. They have emotions. I had one rescue, that i would just go near him, not to him, but near, and then ignore him, and read a book outloud. It took him a couple of weeks to approach me. Then I let him set the pace. He eventually came around, and we got to the "scratch my chest" stage, and beyond. But, a lot of patience were needed. You have to truly "care", to bring one back. And, not be afraid. They consider "facial" touching, and approach, a sign of trust from you. Yes, your face. Rocky, one of my current rescues, a red nose, gets angry with me, and vocalizes it, if during our play, and petting sessions, I do not stop, and let him love back on me. Someone with deceptions, will not trust. They know that. Lots of eye contact, during play I mean, is important to them. I think that is that they want to know your full attention is on them. However, strange dogs will consider eye contact, a challege, so be careful with that one. You cannot let a pit take the "dominant" role with you. They are a strong, pack animal, and to get any apck animal to follow, you, must be a good leader. They must have confidence in your leadership abilities.
