Hi,
There are 2 ways you can do this.
1, drain the tank through some kind of very fine strainer or gauze and then take the tank to be steamed clean at a specialist who steams and dries fuel tanks.
Or
2, buy a fungus killer for fuel tanks. In the UK we call this problem Diesel Bug or Diesel Weed, there is a product made by Carlube called Marine Bio-Diesel which kills and breaks up the fungus. it also prevents re-growth in the tank providing there is still some in there. I use it in my boat and spare truck that don't see a lot of use and i did get this problem before.

Chances are that the fuel level sensor that sits in the gas tank and registers the amount of fuel left is faulty. Either the sensor itself is bad, or the wiring/connectors leading up to it. An additional possible complication is that often times the fuel level sensor is often part of the fuel pump in the gas tank. Hope this helps!
