it depends on the school.
A GPA of 2.8 is less than desirable for a high school sophomore. Students should try to keep their GPA at no less than 3.0, because that is typically the minimum requirement of most colleges.
Depends on what school you want to go to.

The minimum requirements to graduate from high school, is to have at least a 2.5 GPA. If you have any GPA lower than that, you will have to retake the classes to make up for it. How do I know this? I have been a high school teacher for more than 10 years.

A minimum GPA of 3.5 Perfect MCAt scores 31 and above.
Go to the library reference desk and ask to see the Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. The guide ranks colleges and universities in several areas, including academic competitiveness. A 3.5 GPA from a highly competitive school is more valuable than a 4.0 from a school rated "less competitive." It takes more than high school to get into John Hopkins. First, you have to graduate from a college/university with a BA/BS and then you will apply to the medical school, take the testing they want, submit your college GPA, and fill out forms that they want. You can not go directly from high school to medical school.
You cannot calculate the GPA without knowing how many credits each course is worth and where the grades were obtained (high school, college, etc.)
