Natural gas is found in deep underground rock formations or associated with other hydrocarbon reservoirs in coal beds and as methane clathrates.

Natural-gas processing is a range of industrial processes designed to purify raw natural gas by removing impurities, contaminants, and higher molecular mass hydrocarbons to produce what is known as pipeline-quality dry natural gas. Natural-gas processing begins at the wellhead. The composition of the raw natural gas extracted from producing wells depends on the type, depth, and location of the underground deposit and the geology of the area. Oil and natural gas are often found together in the same reservoir.

There are different types of technologies to process and get natural gas Such as CO2 Removal, H2S Removal, O2 Oxygen Removal System, Nitrogen Removal, Arsenic Removal, Mercury Removal, FLNG/LNG Pre-Treatment, Fuel Gas Conditioning (FGC), LPG Recovery from Associated Gas.

The primary source is from gas trapped in geologic formations. Often, natural gas is found in formations associated with petroleum or coal deposits, but some is not. In either case, wells are drilled to collect the gas.
