How do you get obsidian on Minecraft?

Obsidian is found where ever water comes in contact with still lava. This can be found at random, though level 12 is the most likely area as this is the level that large amounts of lava naturally occurs. You can create obsidian yourself by pouring a bucket of water onto still lava as well.
