In most schools traditionally you have to take an entrance exam to get into an AP class, however it is not required or absolutely necessary for a school to have an exam. Speak with a Counselor, Dean, Principal, or an informed Parent about your interest in enrolling into more advanced courses.
It's important to recognize the rigor of an AP class and that the best way to insure a seamless transition into an AP class with out any kind of disruption, is that you maintain well above average marks in the specific class you wish to excel in.

∙ 15y agoTo get in the Honors Program (or Merit class, as it is sometimes called), I think you must request it from the school district and see if you're eligible. The required average for each Honors Program varies with state/district, but your average may be have to be at least a 90 in all classes. Sometimes the required average may be an 85, and can go lower if the entire district's averages are low altogether (if the district as a whole is not doing so well). The best thing to do, if you're personally thinking about it, is to simply ask, as there is sometimes a difference between the Accelerated class and the Honors Program.
