There are some simple problems that need to be checked first. The TV must be set to show the PS3 Audio and Video and connected. You did not say that you are getting sound. When I turn mine on and the HDMI connects it to the proper HDMI input for my computer I hear the sound and the picture. The related link also has steps to take from the PlayStation support and knowledge center to help provide information on not having a picture. The problem can not be fixed until it is determined what is causing your lack of a picture. Two simple suggestions that they make are to try the PS3 on another TV and to try the PS3 with a different A/V or HDMI connection cable. If the simple steps do not work your system may need to be sent in for service.

∙ 12y agoThe PS3 A/V cables must work for you to get a picture and sound. You must also set your TV to receive the signal from the A/V cables by turning the TV to the input that you plugged the cables into. If your TV is set to get the picture from the antenna or cable box you will not get the PS3 picture. Also the A/V cable needs to be plugged into the TVs inputs and matching the color coded RCA style plugs. It will not work if you plug them into outputs on the TV as that was designed to record your TV programming from the TV

Why would you want to when the RCA cable is only for 480i picture and the HDMI is for HDTV. If your TV can work with the HDMI cables then it is a HDTV and the will not provide the same results with an RCA connection. Anyway the HDMI cable is capable of sync and can adjust the setting and automatically switch your TV to the PS3 when you turn on the PS3 slim model (earlier models do not have this feature). You need to go to the PS3 settings and the TV settings to correctly reflect the 480i signal and to manually turn your TV to the PS3 input location every time you now want to use it with the RCA connection. You will also have to manually switch it back when you want to watch TV instead of playing the PS3. The PS3 does have the ability to have the video reset to the lowest level which will allow the RCA cables to work again. This is done by holding down the power button for two beeps while the system is turned off. That is supposed to reset the video to the lowest level according to instructions
