The Altering Cave, in Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen is pretty much useless until you get mystery gift. Before that the only Pokemon in there are Zubats from what I have seen. There may be others, however. Once you get mystery gift, though, some fairly good Pokemon can be found. These include Teddiursa and Stanler.
