The brown spots are a result of scarring. Typically, when a scar is exposed to sunlight soon after formation it will turn brown. It is advised to avoid sunlight for as long as possible after creating a scar, to moisturize and use scar treatments such as Mederma to reduce the appearance.

Considering that you already have the brown acne scars, I would recommend using products like Mederma.

You can minimize your brown spots on your hands and legs by:

1. Exfoliating your skin daily.

2. Micro-dermabrasion

3. Vitamin C

3. A Veil Whitener

4. Having a Skin Care Specialist will also be of help.

5. SPF 30+

Remember you may make it worse by applying over-the-counter products without researching them online.

Melanin is the pigment that gives color to the skin. When melanin secretion is in excess in some localized regions of the body, then it leads to the formation of dark spots in those areas. Dark spots range from light brown spots to being completely black spots. They are often painless and can occur in any part of the body including neck, hands, legs etc.

The exact cause for brown spot formation is not yet fathomed. It is generally assumed that ageing and frequent sun exposure are leading causes of dark spots. Any dark spot removal treatment, whether by using lasers or creams, must thus be formulated considering the age, lifestyle and a host of other factors.
