Depends on the stain! I washed my son's blue tshirt a million times trying to get a chocolate stain out of it and finally tried hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol! Worked like a charm! Greasy stains need dishwashing detergent. The key is to get to the stain ASAP and to NOT dry the garment in the dryer until the stain is removed. The dryer will set the stain!
wash em!!!! also; buy ban deodorant! it's smells nice too:]
to yellow stains out of white shirts to use ultra stain removerAs a man I like to have white shirts and so when I do white laundry I make sure to wash my whites in cold water onlywhen using bleach-- Bleach works best in cold water this is just the way the chemical is meant to work.
The dirt gets trapped in the colar when you wash it,so when you wash it open it up all the way out and undo any buttons on it and you will not see any more stains
Mix equal amounts (1/4 cup) of Cascade dishwasher detergent and bleach in a gallon or so of hot water. Soak the shirts in the mix for about 15 minutes. Then wash the shirts in the washer with cool or warm water as usual. They should be better. You can repeat the process, but if you have previously run the shirts in the dryer, the stains may be in there for good. This was an old Heloise tip.
use bleach... Test it out on a small area first to check if it changes to the same colour, and also to make sure the material is not damaged by the bleach.

When I was an EMT we used hydrogen peroxide for blood stains on our white dress shirts.
